Alias is just ridiculous
May 14th , 2006
Have you been watching alias? Because this show is just too much. Vaughn isn't dead? Um, this is too far. There is a fine line between a show being "shocking" and "just plain sad". With the last few episodes of Alias, the show has crossed over to the latter part. I know the show is finished after this season, but this is a complaint I have had about it all along. When something big happens, you have absolutely no reason to believe it. The show has lost all credibility. All plausability. That being said, I am said to see it go. For what it was, it did a good job. It kept me entertained and filled my spy-fix for the week. I guess I'll just have to download "Spooks" from the BBC now.

The CW Shocker...well sort of
May 14th , 2006
The WB/CW has had plans to phase out its legacy "7th Heaven", but after astounding ratings for the season finale (10+ million!) they have decided to come back for another season. Well, are you kidding me? Do they think these ratings are going to last? It is like tha sporting goods store that has "going out of business" sales every other week. After awhile you just say "screw 'em". The only reason people tuned in was because they thought it was the "last episode ever" (as the commercial read). This is a bad move on The CW's part.

Commander in Chief GONE
April 19, 2006
Again, who didn't call this one? Sure ABC has not officially axed this dreadful drama, but has put it on "vacation". Well this is one step before they put it to death (which is about 1/2 a season too late if you ask me). Gina Davis? Seriously?

House Renewed
April 19, 2006
Yeah we didn't see this coming right? This show is just too darned good to not be back for Fall of 2006. I love this show. Hugh Laurie was a completely underrated actor in my opinion. He plays his cantankerous character so well. Congrats to him. The show is kicking some serious ass with 22 million viewers last episode. That is pretty darn solid.

Alias is BACK
April 18, 2006
So Alias if FINALLY back for its last few episodes ever. I don't care what people say about this show. It might be completely cheesy, but Jennifer Garner is hot and who doesn't love a good spy plot? I've missed tracking down my favorite quadrouple agents.

The Unit...What?
April 14, 2006
Hmmm...Well The Unit is now in the top 10 rated programs on televison. Yeah this show isn't horrible, but it sure isn't 16 million viewers a week good. I love Dennis Haysbert, but the writing is just a bit stiff to be believable. Furthermore the dynamic between the men is weak. So what is going right for this show? Basically its demographic target. It has a healthy dose of female issues relating to the military wives, and of course brings in a good number of men with its action. Just goes to show a mediocre show that hits a wide demo can actually be a "hit".

Good news for Cingular users
April 14, 2006
If you have a Cingular wireless contract you can now get TV GUIDE content. You can get listings and articles sent straight to your phone every day. This is cool...as long as you have a big display on your phone.

Is Lost getting stale?
April 14, 2006
Is it me or is Lost getting a little stale? I don't think it is just me considering the ratings have been falling progressively over the past few months. The writers need to get on their horses and recapture some of that intrigue we had toward the end of season 1.

3 more years of 24
April 11, 2006
So it looks like we will see 8 total season of 24. I am pretty stoked about this. It is one of the best dramas on television. Period. The deal reportedly brought in $40 million for Sutherland. Wow. That makes him the highest paid actor in any current drama series. FOX also signed Kiefer on for 2 years of show development with his new production company. So you better get used to his mug on your tv. It's gonna be there for awhile.

Free TV?
April 11, 2006
Disney just came out today with some rather cool news. They are going to stream 4 of their primetime shows for free during the months of May and June. You will have to visit abc.com and also watch the commercials, but the format is 16x9 and the episodes have chapters so you can skip through. My guess is that they are going to see how much ad revenue they can pull in over these two months and then considering this option for all shows in the future on a permanent basis. Of course episodes can be had on iTunes for a rather ridiculous price of $1.99 a pop. The shows will be Lost (very cool), Alias, Commander in Chief (who cares?), and Desperate Housewives (as if enough people don't already watch this show).

Spielberg's Reality Show...Yes I just said that.
April 11, 2006
In attempt to re-create the utter success of American Idol, Fox has hired on Steven Spielberg to produce a new reality show about nascent filmmakers called "On the Lot". Essentially a group of filmmakers will put together a short film every week and the audience will vote off the worst one. The grand prize for the show's winner has yet to be set in stone, but we have heard that they will be directing Spielberg's next project! Wow. The show will start filming in Fall this year and will air at the start of 2007. I must say, this sounds quite interesting.

The Worst Writing on Television...Smallville
April 8, 2006
I know, it is a WB show, what am I doing watching it right? Well I just have to. I am a huge Superman lover and so I had to give it a shot. Well i've stuck with it over the years and I have to say the writers of this show are idiots. Clark Kent needs to stop being such a wuss and grow a pair. Not to mention this Lex Luthor and Lana Lang relationship that is blooming. Ridiculous. These guys are just ratings chasers. And to top that off, they are making another Comic spinoff, Aquaman. I will bet your life that this show will completely blow and won't make it past a first season. I mean, if you are going to do the younger years of a Superhero or comic character pick somebody cool, like say "The Punisher". Not a guy that has weak powers that only work in the sea. Not to mention a character that is out to protect our oceans. How lame.

The Best comedy on television...period.
April 8, 2006
Where has Reno 911 gone? It is without a doubt the funniest comedy out there. It even had decent ratings for Comedy Central. And in case you were not aware, this show is entirely unscripted. Now that is some serious skill. And it shows. Too bad the guys that run CC are schmucks. Anyways, at least there is going to be a Reno 911 MOVIE coming out this summer. Yeah, that's right. A movie. Cool news.

MAD Money...BUYA
April 8, 2006
Is there seriously anyone above the age of 12 that takes this goon's stock advice? If you have not seen this show on CNBC during the afternoon then I suggest you give it a shot. No, not for stock advice, but rather to hear the two words, "Buya" and "Synergy" used for virtually every word in a sentence. It is really quite amazing. Anyways, this guy has a quite a following and is growing rapidly.

Meredith Vieira takes over for Couric
April 8, 2006
Does anybody really give a f*ck? 'Nuff said.

The CW is gonna suck
April 6, 2006
I want this merger between the netlets (WB and UPN) to work. I really do. But after reading through all the scripts for the pilots they have ordered I feel like ripping out my eyes. It is without a doubt the worst batch of pilots i've read in a long time. My prediction is that this network fails to reach significantly higher levels of viewership than they did as separate entities. Obviously they won't be throwing opposing tv shows at each other so a decrease in competition will obviously help some, but beyond their core group of shows (Smallville, Veronica Mars, America's Next Top Model, Supernatural, Everybody Hates Chris and Gilmore Girls) they have nothing.

Lost and 24 Jumping the Shark?
April 6, 2006
A TV.com editor wrote a piece today saying that both hit dramas are approaching that magical time in a series that marks the beginning of the end. When a show has reached this point, it has said to have "Jumped the Shark". Although the plot twists have gotten a bit much of late, I still think these shows have a lot of dramatic juice left to squeeze before they peak. But on the whole, yes, I do agree that both Lost and 24 are starting to lose a bit of their luster. We can only watch Jack Bauer choke out every enemy in sight so many times before it gets a bit much. As for Lost, the only problem I see is that things are getting a bit stagnant. I don't think this is a problem with the writing but rather a deeper problem with the conception of the show. This thing should have played out in 1.5-2 seasons max.

David Caruso on CSI Miami...
April 5, 2006
Seriously. What is his deal? He's got red hair for one. And therefore he can't by certain physical laws of nature be a badass. And yet he seems to think he is. I don't get it. I just read an article talking about his "worldwide" fame, especially in Germany. Well, the Germans also like Hasselhoff as well. So 'nuff said. CSI Miami doesn't suck, but it certainly isn't as good as the original CSI. I almost feel the urge to tune in on Mondays just to watch Caruso play a 'badass'. It is always a good laugh, I highly recommend it.

Non-tv news, but I had to talk about it.
April 5, 2006
Jessica Simpson has reportedly signed on to play the infamous "CJ Parker" on the upcoming Baywatch movie! Okay, so Baywatch the tv show sucked right? Let me qualify that, the 'plot' sucked, but yeah I still watched the hell out of it. And i'm gonna be 'pitching a tent' outside the theater nice and early to see Jessica Simpson's performance.

The Office
April 3, 2006
With NBC's "The Office" getting a pickup for next season I have to ask: does anyone who has seen the original "Office" watch this? Don't get me wrong, the US version is pretty decent in its own rights. But if you have seen the original, the NBC version just seems like a cheap knockoff. When Carrell does the show's signature "shifty camera eyes" I just cringe. The BBC "David Brent" absolutely puts him to shame. Sigh. Only if "Extras" had David Brent in its story it might have made it.

Jenny McCarthy's new pilot...need I say it?

April 3, 2006
Do I really need to tell you guys that this thing is going to flop harder than a shark on land? She is starring with Patricia Heaton who has some serious goodwill left over from "Everybody Loves Raymond", but seriously, this is going to blow. 'nuff said.

Jeffrey Tambor's new pilot

April 3, 2006
Well folks, Arrested Development's creator has left the show, and that means it isn't going to get picked up by Showtime. Now the cast is jumping ship to new projects. Tambor is the first to leave for a new NBC dramedy with John Lithgow called "Twenty Good Years". It is about two men in their 50's who have personal epiphanies and decide to make the most of their next 20 years of life. Hmm...Sounds "ok". I'll give it a chance since it has two heavy-hitters in the marquee.

Kiefer on LOST?
April 3, 2006
What is this all about? Cross promotion between rival networks? Haha. This was quite an April fool's joke that spread around the online tv community and got people in quite a stir. Very funny.

Wayne Brady "flirting" with CW comedy pilot
March 30, 2006
Come on! Wayne Brady? The CW. Who doesn't see a train wreck? He's just not funny. I'm sorry. If you believe him to be then leave now. Looks like the CW who wanted a "clean slate" and "new image" are going to get stuck right back where they started: a network with a crap lineup (the WB).

Scrubs is "comfy"
March 30, 2006
You know that feeling when a show just becomes "comfortable"? This magical moment in television occurs when the characters are so believable, trusted, and predictable that it feels like they are a part of our lives and that we couldn't live without them? Well Scrubs is THERE! Wating for J.D.'s next fantastical daydream or Elliot's next breakdown is what I live for on Tuesday nights. I think Scrubs has invented more random funny phrases than any other show in history. I hope everyone saw last episode because it was pretty darn good. I certainly hope this season isn't it for the show.

Damn the FCC
March 28, 2006
The WB has a new drama out called "The Bedford Diaries" which documents a sex-ed college course of sorts. So the show isn't that good, the writing doesn't really 'pop', but that is beside the point. The point is the FCC threatened to sue the WB if they aired the episode "as is" with "sexually explicit" material. Okay, I managed to watch the "unedited" version and it was weak. There was hardly anything "over the top" about it. Two girls kiss for about 5 seconds and a girl takes off her jeans. WOW. I blame Janet Jackson's feable attempt to keep her career out of the crapper. Ever since that superbowl game the FCC has been on a rampage. Let's just say there is a reason its called "the BOOB tube".

South Park Benefits
March 24, 2006
The season premiere of the 10th season of South Park got off to a great start pulling in its highest numbers since 2004. Of course this success comes from the free publicity of getting into an ideological battle with Tom Cruise and Scientology. The premiere had 3.5 million viewers which should more than pay for the legal bills Comedy Central will have to pay for when they get sued.

Sex and the City 2?
March 24, 2006
It appears HBO wants to bank on the goodwill left behind from the original Sex and the City with a reality show about a group of single females living in NYC. One promising note is that Amy Harris, who helped create Sex and the City is behind the project. The pilot idea is described by HBO as an "unscripted comedy". Harris was the writer for The Comeback on HBO last season which was cancelled after less than half a season.

Star Trek Fans
March 24, 2006
You are in luck because Jeri Ryan is joining the cast of the CBS pilot "Shark". She will play opposite James Woods, whos character plays a celebrity turned lawyer. Ryan's character will portray the D.A. boss of Woods' character.

Season 2 of Bones
March 24, 2006
Im not sure what the executives over at Fox are smoking, but it must be good because they just picked up "Bones" for a second season. The ratings have been anemic in the key demographics and the acting is just plain rotten.

Desperate Housewives Video Game?
March 24, 2006
Yeah, you read that title correctly. Apparently somebody thought 40 year old housewives are the prime targets for a new PC game that plays out like The Sims. Are you kidding me? This is probably the worst idea of the year, coming in slightly ahead of "Jake in Progress".

TV Ads Don't Work
March 22, 2006
No really? A huge study just released this week confirmed what anyone with a brain could have--tv ads aren't very effective marketing tools. This study notes that "people automatically tune out commercials, almost as if they have filters". Umm...You needed a study for that? The bottom line is that advertisers are going to be looking to push the boundaries in the next 6 months with ads that defy conventional tv advertising methods. Look out for LONGER commercials and shows that are entirely sponsored by one product.

Spike Re-ups Ultimate Fighter
March 22, 2006
Much to the pleasure of many red-blooded American men, Spike TV has decided to give the go ahead for another season of broken bones and shattered dreams with their hit show.

The CW Reaches 65%
March 21, 2006
Today the CW network covers 65% of the country with their newly signed affiliates. This number will continue to climb to country-wide saturation prior to the new Fall season.
