Let's Rob...

This is a new half hour comedy on ABC that will debut in Fall of 2006. The show is about a guy who has worked as a night janitor for years and has always dreamed of quitting to open his own bar. But the only problem is that he lacks the funds to do so. So one night while watching an episode of MTV Cribs, he gets the idea to rob one of New York's richest celebrities. Mick Jagger. Yeah that's right, the one from the Stones. So this guy recruits a motley group of friends to plan this heist. However, things don't go quite so smoothly as planned.

The cast stars Josh Grisetti, Frank Hopf, Mick Jagger (yep), Marz Jobrani, Donal Logue, Tim Miller, Kevin Richardson, Lenny Ventino, and the oh-so-beautiful Sofia Vergara. As you can tell the cast isn't much to look at. In terms of of their collective experience that is. Donal Logue is probably the most notable (yeah I get you never thought you would hear those words uttered together) cast member. He was "Jimmy" the cab driver on the MTV promos. He was most recently on the cancelled tv show "Grounded for Life" on Fox. This show was just plain awful. He has also been in such films as "Little Women", "Ane Eye for an Eye" and "Discolure". He is a pretty decent actor. I'll give him that, but his selection of roles leaves something to be desired. Let's hope this isn't the case here.

As for the rest of the cast, Mick Jagger really isn't in the show, and in fact the original idea for the show was that they would rob none other than "Jeff Glodblum". I couldn't make this up if I tried. Apparently they went with Mick Jagger because he wasn't involved in another pilot like Goldblum was (Raines). The rest of the cast is a bunch of relative nobodies. Except for Sofia, who has been bouncing around sitcom's like nobody's business lately. She isn't much of an actress, but she sure has big boobs. And America likes boobs right? Well at least half of America does.

So who is behind this project? John Beckerman is the creative mind. He worked on "Ed" for NBC last. That was a pretty decent drama, so hopefully this is promising news. And the other EP is Rob Burnett, who also worked on "Ed" with Beckerman. Other than that series, this duo has put in time on the Late Show with David Letterman. Both were writers. Don't be too scared, back when they were writing in the eatly nineties the show was actually somewhat funny.

So what do we think? We think this could be a real sleeper. The cast is green, but Logue is a good start. We also like the EP's although they havn't done too much prior to this sitcom. Keep in mind though, we have not been able to see the pilot nor read the script so we are basically guessing at this point. Though I have a hot lead on the pilot, so perhaps next week we will have an update.

UPDATE: The pilot was "so-so". Yes that is a technical rating. I do see some serious promise in this sitcom and that is why it was picked up by ABC. So stay tuned for more.
