Raines

Summary:
Network: NBC
Release: Fall 2006
This is an hour-long crime drama that documents the cases of a brilliant and eccentric detective (played by Goldblum) that has the ability to speak with murder victims. The show was previously named "Seeing Red".

Cast and Crew:
There is some decent buzz surrounding this project simply because of Jeff Goldblum. He hasn't had a major role in a television show in recent memory (except a few cancelled pilots). He had a 3 episode arc on "Will and Grace" in 2005.

Luis Guzman and Nicole Sullivan have signed on to shoot the pilot as well. You may remember Sullivan from the last pilot cycle in 2005. She was a main character on ABC's short-lived (and rightly so) "Hot Properties". Luis Guzman hasn't been on television since his dreadfully poor attempt at a sitcom in 2003 called "Luis". If his name doesn't ring a bell (it didn't for me) look him up on IMDb. You know who he is. He was recently in the comedy "Waiting" with Ryan Reynolds.

Our Take:
The plot is bad. The supporting characters are a poor fit. And I am going to go out on a limb here and say the writing will be bad as well. The idea behind this show is highly derivative, and the only reason it somewhat works in CBS's "Ghost Whisperer" is because viewers get to stare at Jennifer Love Hewitt and are always treated to an overly-sappy ending.

Although we are absolutely stoked to see Goldblum back in the saddle, we are afraid this show is going to buck him off pretty badly.

We don't anticipate this show getting past the pilot stage.
