TV FROG > The New Adventures of Old ChristineSummary: Network: CBS Release: Midseason 2006 This multi-camera comedy is about a single mom who represents the new concept of an "American Mom". She is 40 years old and owns her own business and and has a good relationship with her ex, until his new (much younger) girlfriend comes into the picture. Christine spends her day juggling the stressors of being a mom and running her own business all the while trying to date. The show is a source of unflinching truthfulness that brings quite a few laughs along the way. Cast and Crew: Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Clark Gregg, Hamish Linklater, Emily Rutherfurd, Tricia O'Kelley, and Alex Horner star. Of course everyone remembers Julia from her Sienfeld days as well as her outrageously funny stints on Arrested Development and Curb your Enthusiasm. Gregg is noted for his 8 episode arc on The West Wing, and Linklater is best known for his role on American Dreams as Stan Silver. O'Kelley had a few episodes on CSI and Gilmore Girls. Rutherford is most known for her time on Will & Grace and Van Wilder. Kari Lizer is behind the project for CBS. She most recently worked on Will & Grace. Our Take: This show was ready to go for the Eye last season but was put in a back closet for mid-season. Well apparently it aged well because critics are liking it and the writing isn't half bad. We have seen the pilot and we have to admit it is volumes better than we anticipated. Maybe the Sienfeld curse is over? We had a suspicion it might be after Julia's memorable performances on Arrested Development this season. The supporting cast is very decent and works well with Julia's character. We like the writing, dynamics and plot. The show will reach A LOT of women and CBS can expect their 18-49 female demographic to skyrocket. This relatively uknown creator/writer/producer really pulled out a good one in The New Adventures of Old Christine. We expect this show to get picked up for a full season 2 starting in Fall of 2006. |
